Info-people: Le Temps on Visa pour l'Image
The 19th International Festival of Photojournalism Visa pour l'Image in Perpignan, France. Its main focus is photo-journalism. The festival is also an excellent opportunity for networking and meeting colleagues.
Swiss newspaper Le Temps reports on the way politicians manipulate their image with the help of press photographers. Putin's heroic bare-chested pictures are quoted as an example
as well as Sarkozy photographed while horse riding in the Camargue, during the French presidential campaign.
These are obviously blatant manipulations - but how about the endless staged photo opportunities on the White House lawn and following the US president during his trips?
The key here is to realize that these photo opportunities are staged - and come to your own conclusions. How many photographers can afford to forego the staged photo opportunities?
An aside: Le temps says that Putin's heroic fishing pictures are shown on the www.kremlin.ru website. By the time I looked, they seemed to have gone. Perhaps Putin's media guys came to the conclusion that they were faintly ridiculous?
