The great copyright scam

Copyright needs to be protected and piracy punished, musicians have to be paid for their work. However, how can you rip-off people by the millions - legally?

  1. Produce music people don't want to buy
  2. Bribe, convince or just bully law makers to assume that everybody is a pirate and tax everybody indiscriminately every time they buy a hard disk or blank DVD
  3. Presto, you have billions pouring in, without any work

And you thought you had to make the effort to sell the Brooklyn bridge or the Eiffel Tower?!
The latest bright idea: charge copyright on all the Internet connections, according to the bandwidth of your connection - and, bingo, more money!

Now if, by any chance, you buy music legally or don't actually listen to any, it's tough for you - you pay for all the pirates in the world. Therefore you might as well stop paying for legal downloads and start pirating - it's your right, you are paying for it.

Question: Who gets all the money? What's the criterion? Who is checking the distribution of this windfall?

Shouldn't we do something about this massive rip-off?
What's the next chapter?
